Ken Waterhouse (Managing Director/Founder)

When did you start working in the care sector?
In 1988 when I opened my first care home. I was 28 years old!

What do you find most rewarding about working in the care profession?
The lovely emails, calls and comments from clients, their families and team members. It makes all the hard work worthwhile to know your work efforts make a positive difference.

What do you enjoy outside of work?
Music is a big passion which means lots of live gigs and listening to music. There is a much longer list including travel, food, films, books, cycling, walking, squash, current affairs, comedy, nature and wildlife. Spending time with family and close friends. Never enough hours in the day.

What are four most important things in your life?
1) My three grown up kids (I hope this counts as one thing)
2) All my other loved ones
3) Good health
4) Operating a business that makes a real and positive difference

Faye Maurer

Faye Maurer (Registered Care Manager)

When did you start working in the care sector?
I joined the care industry in 2018. Three years on I became a Registered Manager at Home Care Preferred. It goes to show passion, hard work and dedication can take you far!

What do you find most rewarding about working in care?
Knowing my team and I are making a positive and meaningful impact to people’s lives through a person centred approach, this to me is so rewarding. No day in the care industry is the same, which keeps it so interesting.

What do you enjoy outside of work?
Cooking and baking is a big hobby! Spending time with family and friends, going to the theatre, travelling to new places, and exercising/yoga.

What are the most important things in your life?
1) Family & friends
2) Health: Because Health is wealth.
3) Purpose: I feel it is so important to be working for a company that is passionate and everyone feels equally valued whatever their role

Emma

Emma Wright (Administrator/PA)

When did you first start working in care?
I joined Home Care Preferred back in 2017 in the Admin support team. Before that I worked in the Rail Industry for 10 years in a similar support role.

What do you find rewarding about working in the care profession?
I love the team work and the camaraderie we have at Home Care Preferred, it makes for a fun and enjoyable work place. I really enjoy chatting to our clients whilst helping them with any of their questions and queries. I have come across many lovely people with some really interesting stories.

What do you enjoy outside of work?
Nothing better for me than catching up with family and friends over a meal out or entertaining at home. Travel is also big part of my life – I love exploring new places and cultures – I’m hoping to visit as many different countries as possible. Other than that, I try to keep on top of my fitness by getting outside regularly for a run – sets me up for the day!

What are the four most important things in your life?
1) Family (Husband and 2 x sons in their 20s) and other loved ones
2) The opportunity to travel as much as possible
3) Keeping healthy and positive in both mind and body
4) Having an enjoyable and productive work life

Julie Phillips

Julie Phillips, Deputy Manager

When did you start working in the care sector?
I started work within the care sector in 2001, I was a neonatal screener working in Audiology. I spent several years within various roles in children’s services before moving to provide support to older people.

What do you find most rewarding about working in the care profession?
Being able to establish trusting relationships with families in need of support. I have a particular passion for providing palliative care & believe that everyone should be able to remain at home in their final days if they want to.

What do you enjoy outside of work?
Time with my family, cooking, swimming regularly & spa trips. Also, I love most Tom Hardy movies.

What are four most important things in your life?
1) My family & loved ones.
2) Being healthy, happy & keeping active.
3) Having holidays to maintain a good work/life balance.
4) My work & the care team, a happy team are fundamental to providing a good service to our clients.

Pamela Silinkas

Pamela Silinskas (Team leader)

When did you start working in the care sector?
I started work within the health sector in 2020. My first introduction to care was working for Home Care Preferred as a care assistant. Earlier in my career, I went to University in Brazil and graduated as graphic designer. I am also a qualified Pilates instructor. In February 2024 I was promoted to team leader. I love this post and I am learning so much.

What do you find most rewarding about working in the care profession?
I meet people from all walks of life and have the opportunity to support them in the best possible way I can. I enjoy being part of a company that really care about their clients and their team.

What do you enjoy outside of work?
I enjoy fitness and sport. I like Tennis, Squash and Pilates and enjoy keeping healthy. I like spending time with friends and loved ones.

1) Good physical and mental health

4) Keeping fit through sports and other activities I enjoy

Our Support Assistants are a diverse group of people. The common thread is that they all share the values of Home Care Preferred and are passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of our clients.
