As dementia progresses everyday tasks can become difficult for people, and it may become increasingly hard to sustain the relationships you once shared as the sufferer becomes more confused and disorientated. However, research has found that there are clear benefits of receiving dementia care at home.
Maintaining consistency is vital, remaining in familiar surroundings enables those suffering with dementia to access memories triggered by sentimental items, such a photos, alleviating feelings of confusions.
Our dedicated team offer tailored dementia care packages, that allows you or your loved one to continue living amongst the things and people they love the most.
There are over a hundred types of this illness. The team are experienced in providing support for people affected by Alzheimer’s, Frontal Temporal (also known as Picks), Lewy Body, Vascular, and many more.
Training for the team at Home Care Preferred Devon is extremely important, each of our support assistants goes through a rigorous training programme. Many become dementia champions.
Our support assistant can of course help with daily household tasks, like preparing meals, cleaning, the usual errands, and help with medication. However, as well as providing dementia care for our clients, our friendly support assistants also bond with our clients and companionship is a major element of the support. Simple things like having a meal together, going shopping, a walk in the park, visiting favourite places really help to enhance the lives of our clients.
Our support assistants will provide dementia care in the home for a number of weeks, before taking a break. This allows them to bond and build up a relationship with the people they’re looking after. Ideally our support assistants will be with our clients for years and we do all we can to ensure continuity.
